SaludPan is definitely something out of the ordinary here in Medellín. Originally an artisanal bakery specializing in whole-wheat and multigrain breads, SaludPan has since expanded to include a restaurant and natural foods store as well.  The restaurant offers set lunches and dinners that come with a soup, entrée and dessert and beverage of your choice from the daily offerings, which also include raw food, vegan, and chicken/fish options. The dishes are always fresh, flavorful, packed with vegetables, and way outside the Medellín norm. In my opinion, it is the perfect lunch spot, but the breakfasts are also a great option. One of the few restaurants that serves brunch, the morning dishes are a solid, healthy start to your day. The unique and flavorful smoothies are a great pick-me-up that will keep you full for hours. My favorite is the Chai Chai smoothie, SaludPan’s take on a frozen chai latte, with all the traditional spices ground fresh and mixed with organic honey, soy ice cream and black tea.

The café/restaurant offers free wifi, along with coffee and espresso drinks, making it a great work environment. Many of the vegetables sold in the store or served in the restaurant come from the owner’s organic farm in Santa Elena. On Saturdays they host an organic produce market, and the shop has started selling seedlings for customers to start their own vegetable garden at home. The store offers organic food and natural products like various grains, nuts, dried fruits, herbs and spices, gluten-free products, pastas wines, beers, teas, candles, salts and more. Finally, we can’t forget the incredible and wide selection of freshly baked whole-wheat breads that started it all.
